A LITTLE HISTORY

Historic Manor which was the residence of Dupond de Savignat and later of Sadi Carnot... François Dupont was first known under the name of Dupont-Chaumont (all his patents until 1798 bear this name, which often made him confused with his older brother), then under that of Dupont-Savignat. He was born in Chabanais on January 12, 1769.

He had four sons and a daughter. His daughter Claire-Jeanne-Marie-Grâce married Hippolyte Carnot, son of the organizer of the victory. From this marriage two sons were born: one, Sadi-Carnot, the President of the Republic (a room in the castle is an homage to him, called La Chambre Présidentielle); the other Adolphe Carnot, father of the former deputy for Charente, Mr. Jean Carnot.

The main house was razed and rebuilt around 1870 based on plans drawn up by Adolphe Carnot (chemist, but having trained at the École Polytechnique and the École des Mines in Paris) while his brother Sadi Carnot was in charge of the ironwork. which, it seems, would be the same as at the Elysée...

The jointly owned family estate was bought in the 1960s by a branch of the Carnot family: the Léonardis family. They still come every year to immerse themselves in the world of their childhood.

The Domaine de Savignac is now a guest house and a guest table. Run by Sophie and Gregory, it offers comfortable guest rooms, a large park, a heated swimming pool and the possibility of sharing meals made with local products.

The estate's park extends over 2 hectares, surrounded by 3 hectares dedicated to horses and vast rolling meadows, hedges and woods.

If you have the opportunity to visit the region, the Château de Savignac is a place full of history and charm, where nature and hospitality meet.
